WTM 2021: Turin takes on 2022

The citys promotion and markets developer, Veronica Rossi, explained why 2022 is Turins year for tourism.

Speaking at World Travel Market, Rossi elaborated on the city's jam-packed schedule for 2022, and how it hopes to continue the momentum beyond next year to earn its place as an unmissable Italian destination.

With Eurovision set to bring a worldwide range of visitors to the city next year, events are playing a key part in the city's 2022 strategy. Along with the classic Song Contest, the Nitto ATP Finals will be held in Turin for the next five years. Honouring the city's history of culture and heritage, the International Book Fair will also take place in the city. The city's bi-annual International Food Fair will return in 2022 for the first time since 2018.

"We're very happy to be hosting such a range of events in 2022. The Nitto ATP Finals have been held in London in recent years, so to be passed the racket to host from 2022 is very exciting. There's so much of everything tourists could want in Turin, and our events programme is one example of that."

Brits will be sure to enjoy 'The Italian Job' charitable event, which to date has raised over ?2.7 million. More than 100 people will take part in a Mini Cooper rally on the city, and guests are invited to tick off a number of the filming locations from the classic film.

"We're so proud of all our events, and we're sure they will help with the restart and bounce back the city is hoping for next year."

With sustainability such a key feature of the tourism restart after Covid-19, Turin is playing its part in green city culture. Turin is home to the biggest roof garden in Europe, atop the city's Fiat factory. The city is home to Green Pea, the first exclusively-sustainable shopping centre, which is powered by geothermal wells and solar panels. The shopping centre also hosts 2000 trees within its walls for a truly green experience.
