WTM 2021: Ibiza eyes a steady return

Ibizas tourism promotion coordinator explained the islands strategic return to a full season.

Beginning with an expression of support for the UK trade, Carmen Sanchez Lapuente explained: "For us - the British trade is a top priority. We have such a strong relationship and the British market is always so kind to us.

"We're already welcoming Brits back with open arms - of course there's a period of recovery. It was always going to be a little bit difficult with a late start to the season, but all feedback from operators and venues is positive. Routes and capacities are being increased all the while."

In terms of the destination's strategic positioning, Lapuente continued: "We always try to promote that it's not just a clubbing destination. For us, we're great for families- half term was proof of that, it was great. Of course we also have the classic Ibizan luxury for couples or romantic breaks."

"Activity is key moving forward. One of the lasting impacts of the pandemic was that people want to be outside. We have great routes for hiking, trekking, cycling, watersports - we have it all."

Continuing a key trend of recovery at WTM 2021, Ibiza is also putting sustainability to the forefront of the guest experience. "In general, people are really interested in sustainable gastronomy- farm-to-table experiences and getting a taste for local produce," explained the destination's tourism promotion coordinator.

"In off season, we're hosting food festivals to showcase local produce, special menus and unique dishes. We're combining these with fishing and farm tours to promote local production and immerse our guests with experiences that they'll remember."

The island has begun the rollout of booster doses against Covid-19 and health regulations are expected to continue in the long term.

Concluding with a positive message for the UK trade, Lapuente said: "We're open for good and ready and waiting for our favourite market to return."
