Speaking to Travel Bulletin at WTM, Raki Phillips, chief executive officer of Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority, reaffirmed the destination?s commitment to tourism.
?We never stopped investing in tourism all throughout the last two years. Half a billion pounds was invested in Ras Al Khaimah ? we're specifically working on developing a sustainable mode of tourism, our focus is nature-driven. We don't want to be like Dubai, we want to compliment Dubai, with our unique adventure offerings, eco-tourism, culture and heritage. This includes our four Unesco sites, which is more than any other emirate?, he said.
Among these adventure-focused tourism attractions is Jebel Jais, the world?s longest zipline on the UAE?s highest mountain, as well the development of a hotel at the top of the mountain itself. The destination is also due to open Jais Wings, a paragliding experience, at the end of this year.
Phillips also highlighted the importance of UK tourism to the region, stating that "the UK is in the top three markets of visitors to our region? and that the intention only grows to cotinue working with the travel trade to ?bring even greater awareness to the emirate.?
