Moonshot Museum gets ready for lift off in Pittsburgh

Pennsylvanias first space museum is set to open to the public on October 15, 2022.

Moonshot Museum in Pittsburgh, a state-first and the world's only focusing on career readiness for the space industry, is opening later this month.

Visitors will be able to see real lunar landers being built and readied for Moon missions. The museum's mission is to encourage young people from all backgrounds to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and maths (STEAM).

Founding board member of Moonshot Museum and Astrobotic CEO John Thornton, said: “The Moonshot Museum is a decade long dream turned into reality. It was designed for the community to literally step into the world of the space industry.

"We want young people to see themselves in our work, meet the real people building spacecraft, and discover that there’s a place for them in space.”

Pittsburgh-based space robotics company Astrobotic partnered with select non-profits to inspire visitors to shoot for the stars.

Executive Director Sam Moore said: “The final countdown is officially underway. After years of designing, thinking, building, prototyping, and engaging with students and members of the Pittsburgh community, we cannot wait to welcome visitors to explore a museum unlike any other.

"We’re thrilled to light a unique spark of space-centred curiosity in our community and spotlight the incredible space industry here in Western Pennsylvania.”

The museum will be open to the public from Wednesdays to Sundays, with admission starting from £9.30 for adults and £4.70 for children aged 3-17.

British Airways continues to operate four weekly services from London Heathrow to Pittsburgh International, departing at 4:45pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridyas and Sundays. Return fares start from £505 per person.
