Juneyao Air has chosen Manchester as its first UK destination, with the direct flight service due to start operations from July 1st, 2024.
The service will mark the first ever to Shanghai from the Northern Hub, running thrice weekly on Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays from July. The new addition means that Manchester is the only English airport outside of London to offer a direct service to mainland China.
The route between Shanghai and Manchester was first announced in 2019 but due to the pandemic was postponed until now.
Juneyao Air’s chairman, Wang Junjin, is “delighted” with the recommencement of the route and expressed his excited over the “business opportunities and flexible travel options” that it will present both Shanghai and China as a whole, and the UK.
Manchester Airport’s managing director, Chris Woodroofe, stated that Juneyao Air choosing Manchester as its first UK hub is a “huge boost’ for the region as it will allow travellers to “see one of the world’s most incredible cities and open up opportunities for business and trade with China’s financial hub” while also “making it easier for people from China to access the North and same everything we have to offer.”
Shanghi will join more than 200 destinations available from Manchester Airport, including the recent returning route of Casablanca.
