Following the announcement that Uruguay features on European Union?s list of safe countries, Colin Stewart, chairman of LATA, said this could prove fruitful for the travel industry in Uruguay, as it will enable trips between the Latin American country, and Europe for business or leisure, provided all EU guidelines for individual countries are followed.
?This news gives us and many of our LATA members confidence and helps us showcase a more diverse picture of how the pandemic is being managed in the continent. Although we anticipate that this will happen in stages, and will be subject to the epidemiological situation in each specific country; the inclusion of Uruguay in the safe list is certainly a step in the right direction,? he said.
In the past few weeks, COVID-19 rates have risen in some South American countries, such as Brazil and Peru. However, Uruguay, which shared borders with Brazil and Argentina, has been hailed as a positive example of pandemic management.
