Aegean steps in to transport medical and pharmaceutical supplies

Aegean, in partnership with Hellenic Petroleum, is working to support the Greek government in its response to the COVID-19 pandemic by operating free flights for the transportation of medical and pharmaceutical supplies, while regular passenger flights are suspended.

The airline is providing aircraft and crew, while Hellenic Petroleum is covering the fuel costs. Initially, the programme will involve 10 flights to China, the Far East and other countries which provide supplies urgently needed by Greek hospitals.

To maximise capacity, Aegean has adjusted two of its Airbus A320/321 passenger places to expand capacity threefold.

As well as the programme to transport medical and pharmaceutical supplies, Aegean and Hellenic Petroleum have announced that they are willing to operate any repatriation flights as requested by the Greek government. During these flights, increased proactive hygiene measures will be put in place such as keeping middle seats vacant and not offering a catering service.
