Visit Somerset and Exmoor with UK?s virtual tourism festival this week

Visit Somerset and Visit Exmoor tourist boards are hosting an online virtual tourism festival this Friday

As a part of an ongoing Somerset Day celebration, two regional tourist boards - Visit Exmoor and Visit Somerset - will be hosting their first-ever virtual tourism festival this week, on May 15 at 3pm (UK time).

The festival will have cultural performances, adventure sports, local cuisines as well as some lessons about the history and culture of the respective places.

These sessions, split into 15-20 mins each, between 3pm and 6pm can be attended via Zoom and live-streaming on the Visit Somerset Facebook page.

Some of the region?s ambassadors, including Yeo Valley dairy farm, Thatchers Cider, Brean Holiday Park and Bridgwater Quayside Festival have come together with unique offerings for the virtual session.

The whole idea behind the virtual festival is to showcase the speciality of these places, while offering insights about its vibrant culinary culture. By the end of the three-hour-long session, the audience will understand why these places should be a part of their next travel plan, post-lockdown.

Thatchers will open the festival at 3pm with a tour of their orchards and ?Knowing Your Cider? experience. It will be followed by a hiking activity outdoors and a special exhibition of market-inspired meals by Dulverton Farmers Market.

A guided tour of the Allerford Village in Exmoor comes next and introduction to a variety of dishes made with farm products by Yeo Valley will lure you to your own dinner table for a quick bite.

A cultural performance outdoors and an enticing display of local seafood will only leave you asking for more. The most entertaining part will be the magic show at Brean Unity Holiday Park and a musical performance by Kitty Macfarlane, streaming live; leaving you with just enough time before that for some cheese and wine, and some folklore with the walking tour Wild About Exmoor.

?The line-up features some amazing businesses and profiles beautiful areas on Exmoor and Somerset. We want to thank visitors for not travelling to Exmoor this time and this festival is the perfect way to express this gratitude. We are bringing a little bit of Exmoor to our audience, in their homes and we look forward to welcoming visitors back, when it is safe,? said Emma Thomasson, director of strategy and operations, Visit Exmoor.

John Turner, CEO of Visit Somerset, added: ?The line-up looks fantastic and it is a great way to remind people, what we have to offer, so that we are right at the top of the list, when the audience is making travel plans. We cannot welcome people in person yet, but we can let them have a good look of Somerset and what makes this county so special.?
