According to Travel Counsellors 2,000-respondent survey, 45% rank travel as their top spending priority, with 75% planning an overseas trip in the next six months.
Travel continues to stake its claim as a priority for Brits: gaining significant distance on home/garden renovations (30%), eating and drinking out (28%) and clothes, shoes and accessories (27%) as the top spending priority for 45% of the Travel Tracker's 2,000 respondents.
76% of those surveyed are showing no signs of slowing their spending, planning to spend at least as much (if not more) as they did in 2023 on travel next year. 81% are likely to exceed their planned budget.
In the next six months, 75% have an overseas trip planned, largely split between 28% opting for a city break and 21% searching for winter sun.
This year, Spain reigned supreme as the top overseas destination, followed by France, Greece, the USA and Italy in the top five spots.
Steve Byrne, the CEO of Travel Counsellors, said: "The clear takeaway from our Travel Tracker Report is that holidays will always be a number one priority – whether in terms of financial investment or emotional fulfilment."
Steve's comments rang true with 29% of holidaymakers heading abroad to escape everyday life, second only to the desire to relax and unwind with 43% of respondents suggesting that is their key motivation to travel.
