Spontaneous staycations surge: 40% of Brits search for savvy savings

Hoseasons has reported that over half of guests are planning a staycation this year, with almost 40% looking to bag a last-minute bargain

The self-catering provider has uncovered insights into potential booking habits, commemorating its 80th anniversary with promising news regarding staycation demand.

53% of Brits are planning UK staycations, with one in 10 planning just weeks ahead of their breaks.

Staycations appear to be in favour thanks to a number of factors, with guests reporting short travel distances (29%), convenience (25%) and affordability (28%) as their key motivations for staycationing.

35% of guests are looking to recreate childhood memories with close-to-home breaks.

Last month, Hoseasons reported a 27% increase in summer 2024 bookings against the previous year.

Gemma Brown, the self-catering provider's general manager, noted a Southwest surge with bookings up 51% year-on-year.

"Having just come back from Cornwall and Devon with my family I can first-hand see why it remains the most popular destination for Hoseasons guests."

Devon, which has shown 44% year-on-year growth, has overtaken Cornwall as the most popular summer destination. Hoseasons offers three-night stays at the Finlake Resort & Spa for four guests from £295, departing on September 2nd.

Yorkshire remains a popular choice, up 18% year-on-year, with three-night stays at the Raywell Hall Country Lodges from £525 for up to four guests next month.
