Sea Princess rescues three sailors in the Caribbean

Princess Cruises? Sea Princess has rescued three sailors who were forced to take to a life raft after their boat sank in the south Caribbean.

The Marine Rescue Coordination Centre in Curacao in the Lesser Antilles received distress calls from a vessel. It then asked Princess Cruises, which was on a world cruise, to go to their rescue.

The 2,000-guest cruise ship turned around and sailed 60 nautical miles to reach the three sailors. It lowered a fast rescue boat to bring them aboard from their life raft.

A tanker had been standing by but had been unable to lower a rescue boat in the prevailing conditions.

The three sailors were admitted to the ship?s medical centre. They were examined and found to be healthy.

Tony Roberts, vice president UK & Europe for the cruise line, said: ?We are very proud that the captain and crew of Sea Princess were able to act quickly and effectively in the assistance of others in distress at sea.?

The ship resumed sailing and arrived at Willemstad, Curacao capital, with some delay.
