PLAY takes flight for the first time from Glasgow

The low-cost Icelandic airline took to the skies today for its inaugural flight on the new Scottish route.

The flight, which departed earlier today from Glasgow International Airport to Keflavík, Iceland, marked PLAY’s first Scottish route, opening new avenues for travel between Scotland and the wider world.

The service will operate four times a week through the summer season, before cutting down to two flights per week for winter.

The route offers alternative travel to North America via Iceland, with PLAY currently offering flights to four US destinations; New York Stewart International, Washington Dules International, Boston Logan International, and Baltimore Washing International airports, and will fly to John C. Munroe Hamilton International Airport in Toronto, Canada, on June 23. All routes have a two-hour layover in Keflavík.

Birgir Jónsson, CEO of PLAY, said: “PLAY is proud to offer Scots a more cost-effective route to the US and Canada, with just a short layover in Iceland. PLAY has already seen great success at London Stansted and Liverpool John Lennon, so we hope the addition of Glasgow will be the perfect addition to our portfolio of British destinations.”
