The operator has partnered with local institutions to offer internships, apprenticeships and mentoring schemes at its head office to nurture future travel talent.
Working with Paragon Skills, North East Surrey College of Technology and The Link School in London, Newmarket is now offering more educational support than ever before. Aspiring young talent up and down the UK can now undertake paid apprenticeships, on-the-job training and paid internships for a year as part of the educational revamp. Currently, the operator has apprentices in its Customer Service and Finance team and an intern within its Marketing department.
Work experience opportunities have also been expanded. Previously, college students had been able to apply to join the company’s Lapland day trips to learn about the product operations and engage with customers. Now, the experience will be more immersive with the team regularly visiting the North East Surrey College of Technology to provide training and students may now take up a short one to two week placements.
Alongside The Link School, Newmarket has developed a pilot scheme wherein members of the HR team have visited the school to mentor students, deliver presentations and offering opportunities for students to take part in ‘discovery days’.
Newmarket Holidays’ head of people and culture Nikki Bail commented on the extended educational programme, stating: “At Newmarket Holidays, we aim to provide a coordinated, integrated, and hands-on approach to careers education with strategic support to schools and colleges, as well as the development of an innovative careers programme which we’re delighted to be growing.”
Emma Kallipetis, a current marketing and sales intern who has been with the operator since July last year, added: “From gaining invaluable office experience and useful insights into marketing to making valuable connections, I feel that I’m so much more equipped now and have already started building a professional skill set in a work environment as I return to finish my studies.”
