According to the latest FCO UK travel advice, Madeira Islands will continue to be on the UK?s travel corridor.
British tourists can continue to enjoy some winter sun at the destination, as travel and tourism authorities have taken all the measures to keep the destination safe and secure against community transmission.
Madeira is currently celebrating the 'Flower and Wine Festivals' until the end of this month and has been able to keep all its festivities, with some adjustments to the schedule and security measures.
Nuno Vale, executive director of Madeira Promotion Bureau, said, ?Since the UK is one of Madeira?s leading source markets, keeping Madeira on the travel corridor is an important recognition by the British government, in return of all the efforts carried out by the destination to be one of the safest places in Europe.?
He added, ?Madeira has long enjoyed an excellent relationship with the UK, as the first British settlement which visited the place in the 16th century, and as a leading market for the destination. Given that our response to COVID-19 has been widely appreciated as being one of the best in Europe, we are very relieved that we can continue to welcome British tourists.?
To ensure the safety for tourists and residents, all people travelling to the islands have to either present a negative test carried out within 72 hours before departure or be tested upon arrival, without any extra charges. All COVID-19 tests are paid by the Madeira Government.
Madeira Islands are working with SGS, to ensure good practices across the destination and minimise risk in the wake of COVID-19. The certification process is available to all companies in the tourism sector.
At the time of writing, Madeira has 178 registered cases of COVID-19 and no deaths. All 42 active cases are confined in designated hotels or at private homes.
