Jet2.com and Jet2holidays announce £650,000 travel apprenticeship funding

An additional £150,000 has bolstered the airline and package operators Appoint an Apprentice scheme, initially announced in October last year.

Following on from positive response to October's announcement, the additional funds will cover salaries of apprentices in over 30 independent travel agencies across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Funds have already been transferred to around 50 agent partners, funding almost 100 apprentices.

Cumbria Travel, Now Let's Travel and Sunlounger Travel have all begun their apprenticeship recruitment processes, with Jet2holidays soon hosting an event at its commercial offices in Leeds to induct the new talent.

Sunlounger Travel's Iain Kirkbright says the 'Appoint an Apprentice' initiative will "allow us to further invest in the scheme and help bring on the next generation of travel talent."

Paul Johnston from Now Let's Travel added: "We are delighted to have been selected as one of the agents to benefit from this fantastic Jet2holidays scheme giving a young person an opportunity to shine in this exciting industry."

Leanne Miller from Cumbria Travel rounded out the rave reviews, explaining the opportunity will ensure the ongoing growth of our business, as well as bringing a new generation of talent into our amazing industry."

Steve Heapy, CEO of Jet2.com and Jet2holidays, added that the additional funds are "a fantastic way to start the new year, investing directly into our independent travel agency partners to help them grow their businesses and support our fantastic industry."
