ITA Airways launches new routes and partnerships ahead of summer season

The airline has announced the launch of the new Washington Dulles- Rome Fiumicino direct flight which departed on June 2, 2023, and was operated by ITA Airways latest Airbus A330neo.

The celebration of the launch was honoured by a ribbon-cutting ceremony held at the departure gate. Those in attendance included Pierfrancesco Carino, Vice President International Sales ITA Airways; Chryssa Westerlund, Executive Vice President and Chief Revenue Officer, Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority, and Min. Plen. Alessandro Gonzales, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Italy in Washington.

Mariangela Zappia, Ambassador of Italy in Washington, said: “ITA Airways' new connection and plans to expand its network in the United States are important, long-awaited steps that bring America even closer to Italy and allow us to strengthen not only tourist flows but also the political, economic and cultural relations between our two countries".

The Washington destination inaugurates the expansion of ITA Airway’s intercontinental network for the 2023 summer season which has been enhanced be the introduction of the Airbus A330neo. The new direct Washington-Rome route will operate five roundtrips per week and will offer a daily roundtrip service from August 1 to October 28, 2023. 

ITA Airways has also announced the commencement of a codeshare agreement with Turkish Airlines that will come into effect from July 2023. The agreement will offer more flexibility for flight options for customers. 

Fabio Lazzerini, CEO and general manager of ITA Airways, commented: “This partnership opens up a privileged access route to Istanbul, one of the most fascinating and historically rich cities in the world for all ITA Airways passengers. This agreement represents the Company's 32nd codeshare: an excellent result we have achieved in less than two years".
