The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum will open their doors to visitors from June 1, with complementary opening hours seven days a week, for maximum accessibility
The two museums which closed down after March 14, following the government directives amid the coronavirus pandemic, have coordinated their hours for the first month, where both the Bilbao Fine Arts Museum and Guggenheim Museum Bilbao will be open from Monday through Friday. Bilbao Fine Arts Museum between 11am to 2pm, (slot I) and 4pm to 7pm (slot II), and Guggenheim Museum from 2pm to 7pm. On weekends, Guggenheim Museum will be open between 11am and 7pm and both the institutions intend to expand their visiting hours from 11 am to 7 pm for July and August. However, these hours are subject to change, which would be announced on their official website. Each museum will be announcing their separate protocols, to be followed after reopening in June.
Measures to help ensure a safe visit for everyone, including limiting the capacity of rooms at a time, controlling the entrance to different rooms and ensuring a distance of two meters between visitors and thermal checking before entering the campus, will be put in place.
In addition, there will be continuous sanitation and disinfection of the contact surfaces, and closing down of the cloakroom and audio guide services. Instead, visitors will be asked to download a free application on their mobile for navigating through the different rooms and identifying the artefacts.
