Experience a virtual culinary journey with Singapore Food Festival 2020

Singapore is all set to host its 27th Singapore Food Festival (SFF) virtually this year.

The festival which highlights the country?s local cuisine, rich tradition and its contemporary culinary landscape, is scheduled to take place over two weeks, intermittently, from August 21 to 23 and August 28 to 30; with ?Rediscover the Foodie in You? as its theme.

The event will see the participation of more than 25 food and beverage talents and 17 masterclasses, featuring pastry chef Cheryl Koh of Tarte, who will present a masterclass on ?clair-making, Chef Julien Royer from Odette, who will put together his popular salads, Promenade A Singapour, and bartending honchos, Colin Chia and Charmaine Thio of speakeasy bar Nutmeg & Clove, who will teach the basics of cocktail-making, and demonstrate how two different tipples can be created.

The festival is also a part of the recently launched SingaporeRediscovers campaign, which aims to showcase a different side of Singapore and boost the country?s tourism and lifestyle offerings, through lesser known stories.

The event will be hosted by TV personality Chua Enlai with a virtual journey through the historical Tanjong Pagar and Chinatown precincts, as well as Katong and Joo Chiat, to discover stories behind popular eats in the area and tales behind its heritage food businesses.

For example, while Tong Heng is a well-known fixture in Chinatown, selling traditional Cantonese pastries, few know that its founder was a former Qing Dynasty security official, who came to Singapore in search of a better life.

These virtual tours are a great platform to learn more about the history and heritage of the precincts and the food secrets they keep.
