Aurora Expeditions has announced that it entered into an agreement with Miami-based shipyard SunStone to build a second Ulstein X-BOW expedition vessel.
It will be delivered in autumn 2021. The sister ship to the soon-to-be-launched Greg Mortimer, the second expedition vessel will be similar in design, featuring the cutting-edge Ulstein X-BOW technology, an inverted bow concept that allows for gentler sea crossings and reduced emissions.
The cruise operator is the first polar specialist to utilise the new technology by leading Norwegian ship designer, Ulstein.
Robert Halfpenny, managing director of Aurora Expeditions, has announced the addition of a second ship to the fleet following the demand for voyages onboard Greg Mortimer.
He said: ?Sales for our polar voyages have been phenomenal; with a virtually sold out upcoming Antarctic 2019/20 season. In excess of 60% of the inventory has already been sold for Antarctica 2020/21 and with the second ship, we are now able to ensure that the demand for places is met without causing disappointment to those who have not been able to join us during Greg Mortimer?sinaugural season.?
The ship will launch out of Ushuaia in autumn 2021 before heading south for the 2021/22 Antarctic season.
