Aurora Expeditions unveil new expedition ship, the 'Sylvia Earle'

The new ship is the companys second expedition cruise ship, reaching shores in November 2021.

Named after the oceanographer and marine conservationist who played an important role in the development of the ship, Dr Sylvia Earle, the purpose-built ship takes an eco-conscious stance to travel.

CEO of Aurora, Monique Ponfoort, explained, ?Exploring the natural world is at the heart of what we do and elements of nature have been brought into the interior design of the ?Sylvia Earle'...our goal has always been to create lifelong ambassadors for the protection of the wilderness areas we travel to and we know that the ?Sylvia Earle? is in a strong position to help us achieve those goals.?

The ship's Ulstein X-BOW?  feature incorporates a two-level glass lounge in its bow, offering insightful views of the horizon, which will be home to the Sylvia Earle Science Centre, a purpose-built lounge from which travellers will experience onboard citizen science programmes. The ship will also features an outdoor pool heated with repurposed engine heat.

Tomas Tillberg, managing partner of Tomas Tillberg Design, added: ?Our close collaboration with Aurora Expeditions has resulted in a design that is not only visually appealing, but also eco-friendly as we have chosen, where possible, materials that are environmentally sustainable. The design also emphasises the importance of casual, elegant comfort, that will really make guests feel relaxed and at home.?

The low energy, high-efficiency design of the ship means there is an 80% reduction in emissions and up to a 60% reduction in fuel consumption.

The ship is scheduled to be delivered in October 2021, with a maiden voyage the month after.
