Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines takes part in VE Day celebrations

Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines? four ocean ships Balmoral, Braemar, Boudicca and Black Watch will be participating in VE Day celebrations at Scotland?s Firth of Forth today.

Shortly after the broadcast of Sir Winston Churchill?s victory speech, the four ships will join the Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels in running up and down the country, sounding their horns.

Later after the Queen?s address at 10pm, the ships will be shining their search lights and spot lights at the night sky, as a part of the Royal Navy?s ?Shine A Light? campaign.

Peter Deer, managing director at Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines, said: ?The VE Day bank holiday was meant to be a day full of celebrations, right across the UK, as together, we mark 75 years since the end of the Second World War.

?Sadly, because of the current situation all over the world, many of those celebrations would not be possible; but by shining our lights and sounding our horns in support of the Royal Navy?s campaign; we can commemorate this historic day, and show our thanks to Forth Ports, who have supported us in true Great British spirit, while our ships are in their waters,? he added.

Those who are able to see or hear the ships from their homes can share using social media handles like #ShineALight and #VEDay75.

Balmoral, Braemar, Boudicca and Black Watch the four ships have remained in the Firth of Forth since the company announced a pause in operations in March.

During this time, the ships have also been sounding their horns every Thursday at 8pm, in support of the NHS, carers and health care professionals working all over the nation.
