Holidaying Brits do still love their duty free, with more than a quarter of travellers admitting to going a bit crazy, and shelling out more than ?30 on tax-free goodies when faced with an airport duty free shop, according to a survey from HolidayExtras.com
And it seems that we really throw caution to the wind when it comes to preparing to strut our stuff on holiday - with 18% saying that they think nothing of spending between ?50 and ?100 on a visit to the hairdressers or beauticians and 13% splashing out more than ?100!
Men prefer to save their spending money until they reach their destination, with 20% of British men admitting to spending just ten pounds or less on their holiday preparations.
A small proportion of those polled, just 12%, said that they?re not at all tempted by duty-free and feel little need for masses of holiday preparation. They simply prefer to save their pennies until they reach their destination.
The company's head of marketing, Ben Alexander, said: "There seems to be a heightened interest in duty free as the savings now equate to 20% off because of the rise in VAT."
