Visit California and Virgin Atlantic Holidays invite Brits to ‘Play Big’

Visit California and Virgin Atlantic Holidays recently brought the West Coast directly to the Big Smoke with the ‘California Games’, a free, immersive takeover of Outernet London

Running from June 12th-13th, the capital’s most-visited cultural attraction was completely transformed into 'The Ultimate Playground'. Perfectly timed to coincide with the FIFA World Cup 2026 opening fixture in Los Angeles, the two-day event celebrated California’s legendary sporting culture, iconic destinations, and endless entertainment.

Visitors were immersed in California’s playful energy. Highlights included a revival of the classic 1987 California Games video game on giant interactive screens, where guests could try their virtual hand at surfing, BMX racing, and roller skating. Meanwhile, the Now Building space kept the party going with a marching band, cheerleaders, a drag queen, and a nightly DJ, with delicious grub served up from a vintage Airstream trailer.

For a taste of the high life, Virgin Atlantic’s pop-up Clubhouse Lounge recreated the buzz of jetting off from Heathrow to LAX, complete with a fully-stocked bar.

Caroline Beteta, president and CEO of Visit California, noted the state's exciting future, “California is entering an extraordinary era for sports and entertainment, with some of the world’s biggest events set to take place across the state over the next couple of years.”

Paul Truss, head of product at Virgin Atlantic Holidays, added, “California remains one of the most popular destinations for our customers, thanks to its mix of iconic cities, world-class entertainment, sports and unforgettable road trips.”
