Tunisia looks ahead to "even better" 2026 after benchmark-setting 2025

With the destination expected to match or exceed 2014's record British visitation, the Tunisia National Tourist Office's director general of tourism has high hopes to continue the momentum into next year

2014 saw 427,000 Brits visit Tunisia; figures as of October 31st, 2025, report over 395,000 for 2025 so far. The expectation for this year sits around 425,000, with hope remaining that this year could set a new record. The destination's director general of tourism, Mohamed Mehdi Haloui, reflected on a momentous year at World Travel Market.

Haloui attributed a large portion of the growth to "the increase of flight capacity, mainly by easyJet Holidays," but the destination's evolution has been equally pivotal. "The diversification offered by Tunisia in terms of alternative tourism and accommodation, culture and history, and other niche products has been key."

Luckily, the office not only sees support in-destination from a growing variety of travel products, but "great relationships with UK decisionmakers... There is a good dynamic between the two countries, so that is an additional attraction for visitors."

One notable shift post-Tunisia's record 2014 has been the trust cultivated among travellers. "People now are confident in Tunisia. That makes it not only an affordable choice because of the value for money proposition, but a safe one."

Cultivating security among visitors has been key, and no doubt instrumental in the potentially record 2025, but that momentum doesn't look to be slowing. The director general hopes that 2026 "will be even better than 2025, especially with the increasing number of flights from the UK to Tunisia, courtesy of easyJet, notably."

A potential incentive scheme for airlines and tour operators to expand their Tunisian footprint is in development between the Ministry and the Tunisian National Tourist Office's head office to "convince [operators and airlines] to consider Tunisia as a key growth destination."

Director General Mohamed Mehdi Haloui was speaking at World Travel Market, which took place in London from November 4th to 6th, 2025.
