Glasgow Airport and WestJet celebrates the return of the Toronto service
Glasgow Airport has celebrated the departure of WestJet's new direct service to Toronto Pearson International Airport, which marks the airlines return to Scotland's largest city for the first time since 2022.
The new route will operate four times per week using WestJet's Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and boost transatlantic connectivity between Scotland and Canada.
Canada remains one of Scotland’s most important international tourism markets, with visitors spending £135 million in 2024 alone, while around 4.8 million Canadians claim Scottish ancestry.
Chris Tibbett, Executive Director, Commercial, Aviation and Marketing for AGS Airports, said, “Today’s inaugural flight to Toronto marks an important milestone for Glasgow Airport and underlines the strength of the relationship between Scotland and Canada. We are delighted to welcome WestJet back to Glasgow, a partnership that stretches back to 2015 when the airline first launched services from the airport. The return of this vital transatlantic link is clear evidence of the strong demand that exists for direct connectivity between our two countries, supporting tourism, trade and investment on both sides of the Atlantic."
