Sun, sea and sales: the Caribbean is calling

Caribbean fanatic Kirsty Mitchell from Travelosophers shares her whistle-stop tour through the region, highlighting the differences that make each island a unique gem in the Caribbean crown

"Hello and welcome to the Caribbean — a greeting you’ll hear time and time again as you step onto any of these incredible islands."

"Over the past couple of years, I’ve been lucky enough to visit some truly unforgettable destinations, including Barbados, St Lucia, St Martin, Curaçao, Aruba, Grenada, St Vincent, Antigua, Martinique, Dominica, and Jamaica. Each island offers something completely unique, making the Caribbean one of the most diverse and exciting regions to explore."

Destinations in depth

"Barbados — the home of Rihanna and rum punch — is a fantastic destination and, on three occasions now, the starting point for my biannual cruise reunions, where I’ve travelled with groups of up to 28 of my clients. A visit to Oistins is an absolute must, offering a lively atmosphere, incredible food, and a real taste of local culture."

"St Lucia is simply stunning, with some truly spectacular hotels, making it perfect for honeymooners. One of my favourite experiences here was taking a speedboat out for the day to visit the breathtaking Pitons — an unforgettable sight."

"St Martin is a fascinating island split between Dutch and French sides. We spent a day at the beautiful Loterie Farm, a peaceful jungle retreat (unless you visit on pool party day!). Plane spotting here is also a must — watching aircraft land just metres above your head is both thrilling and surreal."

"Grenada is lush, vibrant, and full of natural beauty. It’s an island where you can truly live off the land. Venture high into the mountains, and you might even have a monkey come and sit on your shoulder — a magical experience."

"Dominica was simply incredible. We were taken to a cave, equipped with buoyancy aids, and jumped into refreshingly cold water. What followed was extraordinary — swimming through the cave to discover a stunning waterfall, famously featured in Pirates of the Caribbean. Naturally, I had to rewatch the film afterwards — and yes, it really was that spot."

"There’s so much more I could say about these amazing islands, each one offering its own charm and some of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet."

"Speaking of friendly faces, I have to finish with one of my absolute favourite places — Jamaica. After visiting last year with the tourist board to deliver aid following hurricane devastation, it holds a very special place in my heart. Jamaica is a destination that truly captures your mind, heart, and soul. The energy, the culture, and above all, the people — some of the warmest and most welcoming I’ve ever encountered — make it unlike anywhere else in the world."
