St. Kitts to launch Homeporting with P&O Cruises in 2027

St. Kitts is set to strengthen its partnership with P&O Cruises by launching full-scale homeporting operations in Basseterre from November 2027

For travel agents, this development opens up new sales opportunities, with clients able to start and finish their Caribbean cruise directly in St. Kitts.

Homeporting means longer port stays, and increased pre- and post-cruise opportunities. Travellers can spend additional nights on the island, creating scope for agents to package accommodation, excursions, and local experiences alongside cruise bookings.

Prime Minister of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, The Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, said, “The introduction of homeporting in St. Kitts marks a pivotal moment in our nation’s progress. Each ship that docks brings new opportunities for our people, our economy, and our culture to flourish. This initiative reflects our commitment to achieving our Sustainable Island State agenda by fostering sustainable growth, elevating our profile on the world stage, building resilience, and positioning St. Kitts as a premier destination of excellence and opportunity.”

President of Carnival UK & P&O Cruises, Paul Ludlow, welcomed the partnership and highlighted the expanded opportunities it will bring for travellers visiting the destination.

“We are delighted to be adding St Kitts as an additional turnaround port for Iona, marking an exciting evolution of our Caribbean fly/cruise programme from autumn 2027. Introducing St Kitts in this way gives our guests even greater flexibility and choice, while opening more seamless access to one of the region’s most beautiful and culturally rich destinations. This development reflects our ongoing commitment to working closely with our destination partners and to continually enhancing the holiday experience for our guests, combining the ease of fly/cruise with the exceptional onboard experience that Iona offers.”

For agents, the addition of St. Kitts as a turnaround port strengthens Caribbean itineraries, particularly for UK clients flying from London Gatwick with British Airways. The destination’s rainforest landscapes, heritage sites and cultural experiences provide strong selling points for pre- and post-cruise stays.
