Travel Bulletin was delighted to be hosted by Travel# and the Chamber of Commerce for Salerno along with several other journalists, and travel agents from the UK and France to experience the wonders of Salerno from April 11th to 14th
With the reopening of the Salerno’s Costa d’Amalfi Airport in 2024, passengers can now fly direct from the UK with easyJet and British Airways to the southwestern region of Italy.
Salerno boasts fewer crowds and a better value proposition than neighbouring areas. The region offers travellers a cultural and gastronomical delight, surrounded by breath-taking scenery — as well as being an idyllic hub for day trips to the islands of Capri and Ischia.
The four-day itinerary began in Vietri sul Mare with a welcome at Lloyd’s Baia Hotel terraces, followed by a visit to Ceramica Solimene and a walk among ceramic workshops. The group toured the Marina d’Arechi tourist port, the Salerno-Amalfi Coast Airport, and Tenuta Vannulo in Paestum, an organic mozzarella producer featuring a museum.
On the second day, the group visited the Museo Vivo del Mare in Pioppi di Pollica and the Ecomuseo della Dieta Mediterranea, then explored the organic crops at Tenuta degli Eremi. At Acciaroli Port, they were welcomed by the Mayor and toured La Pineta Hotel. San Mauro Cilento followed with local product tastings at Palazzo Mazzarella. The day ended at Punta Licosa and Castellabate, including visits to Santa Maria hotels, the medieval village, and the Castle of the Abbot.
In Salerno, the itinerary ticked off the Diocesan Museum and Cathedral with relics of Saint Matthew, and the Monumental Complex of Saint Peter at Court. Participants visited the City Park during the Mostra della Minerva, Liberty Square, and the Zaha Hadid Maritime Station. A boat trip to Cetara featured an anchovy sauce demonstration. The day concluded in Paestum with visits to the WWII landing site and the archaeological museum.
The final day featured a visit to Palinuro’s hotel facilities, a trip to the Blue Grotto by gozzo, and stops at Mingardo beach and the Infreschi Museum in Marina di Camerota. The itinerary concluded in Paestum at the Savoy Hotel & SPA with a tourism-focused conference, B2B workshop, and themed dinner buffet.
Agents can find more insight on the region, including key attractions, planning resources and accommodation options, on the Live Salerno website.
