Report names Spain as best value destination for a sun and beach holiday

Research conducted by On the Beach has revealed Spain as the best value destination when comparing the length of its beaches, sun hours and average water temperature versus the cost of a holiday during the busy summer sun period.

As millions of British families prepare to jet off to the sun, many are still yet to book their beach holiday. To help sun-starved Brits choose the perfect destination for their holiday in the sun, On the Beach has compared those all-important factors to reveal the very best value for money.

The research revealed the ever-popular Spanish resort of Lloret De Mar on the Costa Brava as the best value destination, enjoying more than 58 hours of sun per week, 48km of beach and an average water temperature of 23 degrees.

Benidorm, on the Costa Blanca, famed for its beaches and nightlife offers the second-best value for money in terms of sun versus the cost of a holiday. The ever-popular resort offers holidaymakers 72 hours of sun each week, 57km of sandy beach and an average water temperature of 23 degrees.

Offering more beach than any other resort, Torremolinos grabs third place with almost 80km of sandy beach, 77 hours of sun and an average water temperature of 22 degrees.

The research found that the Mediterranean resort town on southern Spain?s Costa del Sol, offers fantastic value for money when comparing the cost of a holiday versus its beaches, sun hours and water temperature. Whilst the Mallorcan resort of Santa Ponsa grabs fifth place, with more than 70 hours of sun each week.

Greece and its islands, which have been popular hot-spots for holidaymakers for many years, takes the fourth, six and seventh spots with Crete, Halkidiki and Rhodes all providing excellent value for money for those seeking, sun, sea and a swim.

The research also revealed many other popular European beach destinations offering great value for money in terms of beach and sun versus the overall cost of a holiday. The Canary Island of Gran Canaria and the sun-kissed island of Cyprus with its warm waters averaging 26 degrees during the summer period, completing the top ten list.
