RAKTDA targets global tourism growth ahead of Wynn Island resort opening.

Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) has said it aims to strengthen its global presence through Wynn Al Marjan Island

Set to open in September 2027, the island will be the UAE’s first integrated gaming resort.

The $5.7 billion development is expected to raise the emirate’s global profile, with plans including 1,500 rooms, restaurants, pools and entertainment.

Phillipa Harrison, CEO of RAKTDA, said, “It’s an iconic development for us, but it’s part of a wider tourism story that really leads into our natural assets, like our mountains, mangroves, beaches, and deserts.

“We’re going to bring all of that to life to complement this incredible moment we have with the Wynn opening.”

Further efforts to promote the emirate to travellers include showcasing its environmental offerings, such as the Saij Mountain Lodge, a 70-room lodge high up on Jebel Jais, the tallest mountain in the UAE.

The accommodation is strengthened by adventure activities and trekking, whilst also being a sustainable option. Made in partnership with Mantis, an African brand built on environmental principles, the lodge is built out of materials on the mountain.

“It’s there to complement the mountain rather than to take away from it,” said Phillipa.

“Sustainability means a lot of different things. It’s not just environmental – it’s about residents and their quality of life, and a whole range of other things.

“We make sure that as a newer destination, we can grow with all those things in mind.”

Following a period of uncertainty in the region, RAKTDA has taken steps to keep its tourism industry going, for example by working on the domestic market, which saw a 50% growth as a result in 2026.

“It’s important to give people confidence by showcasing that life goes on and being very transparent when there are issues,” said Phillipa.

“Tell people about them, and tell people what you’re doing about them, and carry on.”

RAKTDA was in attendance at WTM London to meet with hotels, partners, and operators on the ground, with the aim of sharing exciting updates from Ras Al Khaimah.

Phillipa emphasised the importance of travel agents, describing them as an ‘incredibly important part of our ecosystem’.

“We extend an invitation to the travel agent community to come and see for themselves all the exciting things that are happening in Ras Al Khaimah."
