From January 2027, a new daily service will commence between London Heathrow and Melbourne, helping to strengthen trade and tourism to the Victoria region
The new British Airways route, which will fly via Kuala Lumpur, will make it easier and more efficient to access the key Australian market: the UK is Victoria’s fourth-largest source for international travellers.
Minister for Industry and Advanced Manufacturing, Colin Brooks, said, “Securing these flights operated by British Airways to London is a major win for Victoria […] These new flights put Victoria in a stronger global position, making it easier for our businesses to reach key markets and for more visitors to experience everything our state has to offer.”
British Airways’ chief planning and strategy officer, Neil Chernoff, commented, “We’re delighted to announce sizeable growth to our flying schedule for winter 2026, including a new route to Melbourne that I am confident will prove popular with our customers. We have a long history connecting Britain and Australia, and we’re excited to be returning to this great city.”
In addition to British Airways, the government has supported new and expanded services from Delta Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines and Shenzhen Airlines.
