Intrepid introduces new Indigenous experiences in Canada

The two new tourism experiences aid in achieving Intrepid’s goal of including an Indigenous-led experience on 75% of its Canadian tours by the end of 2026

With these additions, nine of Intrepid’s Canadian itineraries now feature an Indigenous-led experience, providing opportunities for travellers to learn about new cultures while supporting local communities.

In a recent survey conducted by Intrepid, UK travellers showed the highest demand for Indigenous experiences, with 77% of Brits saying they would consider taking time to experience the local culture and support Indigenous business while travelling.

The new experiences come through Intrepid’s new partnership with Talaysay Tours, an Indigenous-owned tourism company that offers land-based experiences across British Columbia.

As part of the partnership, the companies now offers a new ‘We are the Land’ experience in Whistler, bringing placed-based learning to Intrepid’s ‘Grand Canadian Rockies’ itinerary. A new Huron-Wendat experience in Wendake, near Quebec City, will also be added to the ‘Eastern Canada by Rail’ tour, which includes a guided visit to the Huron-Wendat longhouse and museum.

Christian Wolters, President of Intrepid Travel Canada, said, “Long-term partnerships with Indigenous tourism businesses are essential to how we approach responsible travel in Canada. Working with partners like Talaysay Tours allows us to integrate Indigenous-led experiences into our itineraries in a way that is shaped by our partners, while making these experiences more visible to travellers looking for meaningful adventures across Canada.”

Talaysay Campo, Co-Owner of Talaysay Tours, commented, “We are the original stewards of these lands and waters, and to our people, the land is everything - it is our culture, our identity, our history and our way of life. I’m honoured to share these teachings through Talaysay Tours and, together with Intrepid Travel, introduce We Are The Land, in Sḵwiḵw.  Through this experience, travellers will walk the land with us, discover Indigenous knowledge and learn about the living relationships that have connected our people to these mountains since time immemorial."

Intrepid’s new experiences build on its five-year commitment to support growth and promotion of Indigenous tourism in Canada. The company plans to add an Indigenous-led experience to all of its Canada itineraries by the end of 2031, ensuring all travellers who embark on an Intrepid itinerary leave with a deeper understanding and connection to Indigenous culture.
