Additional departures in the off-peak and shoulder seasons have made 2026's small group programme Inside Travel's largest-ever

Richard Farmer, group tour programme operations manager, introduced the 2026 programme, which has just seen additional departures in the shoulder and off-peak seasons.

"Our 2025 tours sold at a pace we’ve never seen before, which not only reflects the popularity of Japan right now, but the demand for the ‘Insider’ escorted small group tour... I think there are some misconceptions around small group travel. Our tours are not like others – they’re not coach tours. We travel mainly by local and bullet train, staying in a mix of hotels, traditional ryokan guest houses, and even temples."

At the start of the year, the operator cut shoulder season and off-peak tour rates by 7% and 15%, respectively, to disperse visitation and guarantee well-rounded group sizes throughout its programme. The enhanced options for 2026 promise agents greater flexibility and value, as Richard explained. "With our 7% shoulder and 15% off-peak reduced pricing now in place from the outset, there’s a real opportunity for agents to present an affordable alternative to peak-season travel.

"The culture that makes Japan so special doesn’t just stop outside of spring or autumn."

Co-founder Simon King provided some insight into the demand behind the choice to expand 2026's off-peak and shoulder season roster. "From July 2024 to June 2025, InsideJapan has seen a 21% increase in travel to Japan compared to the previous year, and we’re continuing to see ongoing demand.

"For agents, this is the perfect time to capitalise on traveller interest, especially for clients who want an expertly guided, authentic experience without the stress of planning it themselves."
