Government guidance for Gibraltar as new entry conditions are set to begin

From July 15th, UK travellers heading to Gibraltar will need to familiarise themselves with the new entry conditions for short-stay visits in respect of the new UK-EU agreement coming into play

Gibraltar’s entry conditions will now align with Schengen rules for all British travellers who are not residents of Gibraltar and who travel on a full British citizen passport. The Government has released the below guidance to help with the transition.

  • British travellers will not need a visa for visits up to 90 days, applying in any 180-day period as it does now. From the date of the agreement, any days spent in Gibraltar will count alongside time in the Schengen Area towards that 180-day limit.
  • Passports must be less than 10 years old prior to entry, and valid for at least three months after the intended leave date from Gibraltar or the Schengen Area.
  • There will be a two-check process at Gibraltar International Airport: an immigration check and a Schengen check. This includes registration under the new Entry/Exit System.

If travellers are a British-Irish dual national travelling on an Irish passport, they will be treated as an EU citizen.

All the latest news and requirements can be found on the FCDO’s Gibraltar page, and a public awareness campaign will follow across Visit Gibraltar’s channels.
