The Jamaica Tourist Board, in partnership with Travel Bulletin and Couples Resorts, has announced the winners of its Romance Competition held earlier this year to reinforce Jamaica’s position as a leading weddings and honeymoons destination
Sue Brown from East of England Co-Op Travel has won the five-night premium all-inclusive stay for two at Couples Resorts in Jamaica, and she is ready to celebrate her 10-year anniversary with her husband back where they initially tied the knot.
On winning the competition for herself and her husband, Sue said, “It was initial disbelief and then pure elation, it is going to be amazing to spend quality time together without work or family commitments.”
Sue shared that Jamaica was always on her bucket list, but external factors prevented her and her husband from making the journey. “Maybe all this happened to postpone us so we would eventually get married there.”
The destination itself means a great deal to the couple. “The vibrant culture, music, history, beaches, food, relaxation, the warmth of the people, and of course rum. [Jamaica] will always have a very special place in my heart.”
Runner-up prizes were awarded to Dawn Wilson, IMP Travel; Hilary Wyborn, TUI; and Sarah Kenton, Triangle Travel.
The destination continues to resonate with couples through its mix of diverse experiences, accessible wedding requirements and vast resort offering, giving agents a strong platform to sell both destination weddings and honeymoons. From sunset cocktails at Rick’s Cafe and bamboo rafting on the Martha Brae River to climbing Dunn’s River Falls and swimming in Luminous Lagoon, there is something for every couple to indulge in.
Jamaica offers a straightforward process when it comes to organising weddings. Some key facts for agents to know:
- No blood test required
- Visitors can legally get married after being on the island for 24 hours
- Resorts handle the documentation and wedding certificate
