This weekend will see over 9,000 flights take to the skies, with Friday, July 18th, anticipated to be 2025's busiest day for UK flight departures so far
9,256 flights are scheduled to depart this weekend, representing a 2% increase compared to the same weekend last year. That figure, however, represents 95% of 2019's levels. 40,000 more seats are available against that weekend in 2019, attributed to the larger aircraft now dominating the airspace.
Cirium data uncovered the insights on this week's high expectations, which found 3,244 flights will depart on Friday alone as the kids' school holidays kick off.
Naturally, flights from the capital lead the way with Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted taking first, second and fourth place in the nation's five busiest airports. Manchester and Edinburgh are anticipated to be the third and fifth busiest this weekend.
easyJet, British Airways, Ryanair, Jet2.com and TUI are the airlines with the busiest departure boards this weekend.
In terms of destinations, Malta has reported a 20% increase in flights against July 2024 this month, with Morocco and Canada welcoming 17% and 11% more flights, respectively. Cyprus and the Netherlands have seen flight numbers decrease by 2% with France falling by 3% against July 2024.
