Egyptian tourist office shares ancient treasures online

The Egyptian State Tourist Office in London is releasing weekly virtual reality (VR) tours of popular sites for tourists.

The VR tours will be a mix of archaeological sites, which draw thousands of tourists to Egypt every year, as well as new tourist attractions.

This project is the result of the cooperation of the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and Harvard University. This week's site to explore online is the tomb of Queen Meresankh III.

In a statement, the tourist office said: "Until the real encounter takes place with such fascinating sites we hope that this virtual Visit will provide you information and inspiration about your next visit to Egypt."

It is being promoted on social media through the #ExperienceEgyptFromHome hashtag.
