Croatia brings traditional Marenda to London

A true celebration of everything Dalmatia was had at the Hurlingham Club this week as the Croatian National Tourist Board brought a traditional Marenda to London

The special event, hosted by the Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board, was attended by around 80 guests, all eager to learn more about the traditional gathering. In attendance was the Director of the Split-Dalmatia County Tourist Board, Ivana Vladović, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in London, Davor Ljubanović, and the Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board in London, Bisera Fabrio.

The London event forms part Central Dalmatia’s activities to prepare for 2027 when it will hold the title of ‘European Region of Gastronomy’.

During the event, Bisera said the brunch is “much more than food, it is part of our way of life, our culture and the Mediterranean spirit. It is a moment in which we slow down, sit together and share what we have. Bringing brunch to the prestigious Hurlingham Club in the heart of London means bringing a piece of Dalmatia to London and sharing with our British friends the most beautiful things we have, not only the flavors of our country, but also its warmth, hospitality and the art of enjoying life.”

Chef Nikola Marušić prepared dishes inspired by Dalmatian cuisine, while guests were treated to a musical performance by Katica Marinović.

The British market remains important to Croatia, confirmed by the fact the UK holidaymakers make more than 95 million trips annually, allowing great potential for Central Dalmatian to showcase its diverse offers to Brits, from the coast and islands to its vast cultural heritage and strong gastronomy scene.
