Original Travel has reported a 55% surge in October half-term departures in 2024, leading founder Tom Barber to suggest "the world opens up" to families during the period
With The Telegraph reporting record prices, crowds and temperatures in July 2024, and many schools opting for a two-week holiday during the October half-term break, it is no wonder Original Travel has reported such a rapid rise in October bookings. Generally, October is now perceived to be the second most popular month to travel, only behind July.
2025 is expected to follow the trend as more schools roll out the two-week break and the trio of factors making summer holidays in July less appealing only worsen.
Tom continued, noting that October "has always been one of my favourite times to travel," and adding that the previous one-week break for half-term previously "put a spanner in the works for big family trips. With the adoption of two-week half-terms for some schools, the world opens up, making some great October destinations like India, South Korea, the US and Oman accessible."
Original Travel published research last summer revealing exactly what kids are looking for from those family holidays whenever they do come.
