In an effort to help the humanitarian crisis in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe, Cruise and Maritime Voyages (CMV) invited passengers to raise money on board its ship, Astor, which visited Maputo, the capital of Mozambique following the devastation of Cyclone Idal.
Starting off with a sizable donation from CMV, the voyage managed to raise a total of ?7,756 for the relief programme; UK-based DEC (Disaster Emergency Committee).
Speaking of the fundraising voyage, Chris Coates, commercial director of CMV said: ?We have chosen to donate to the DEC, an umbrella emergency relief charity supporting 14 UK aid charities including; Christian Aid, Save the Children, the British Red Cross and Oxfam.
This appeal has been well supported by passengers raising thousands of pounds to help the people of Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe at this difficult time.?
While Maputo was largely unaffected by the tornado, almost 1,200 square miles of Mozambique have been flooded, leaving thousands without food, clothing or shelter.
