Greater access to Sri Lanka has been opened up with the launch of a new British Airways service between London and Colombo
The new seasonal route is set to start on October 23rd, operating three times a week throughout the 2026/27 winter season.
This should give British holidaymakers a new direct option for reaching Sri Lanka during one of its key travel periods.
The addition comes after UK demand for Sri Lanka has continued to grow, with more than 170,000 travellers from the UK visiting the island so far this year. This makes the UK Sri Lanka’s second-largest source market, with a 10% share of all international arrivals.
World Traveller, World Traveller Plus, and Club World cabins are available on the service, with return fares starting from £620.
Sarangi Thilakasena, deputy director of Marketing at the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, said, “We are delighted to welcome British Airways’ new seasonal service between London Gatwick and Colombo.
“Sri Lanka offers an incredible diversity of experiences in one destination. From wildlife and rich culture to exceptional cuisine, mountains, wellness and beautiful beaches, there is something to inspire every type of traveller.
“We look forward to welcoming more British visitors this winter and sharing the warmth, hospitality and experiences that make Sri Lanka such a special destination.”
The culturally rich island continues to capture the imagination of British travellers seeking more than a traditional long-haul beach holiday.
From climbing the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress and spotting elephants and leopards on safari to surfing the Indian Ocean and travelling through the lush tea country of the central highlands, Sri Lanka is bursting with experiences.
This launch comes ahead of World Travel Market London at the start of November, where Sri Lanka Tourism will host a press conference.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Hon. Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe, will be among the speakers alongside senior representatives from Sri Lanka’s tourism industry and airline partners.
