BA gives Barbados its biggest ever airlift boost

British Airways is set to give Barbados its biggest-ever boost in airlift, with a 70% increase in seats for the 2026/27 winter season

BA has also said it will more than double its summer capacity for 2027, whilst expanding its service to triple-daily flights and double-daily summer connectivity.

This expanded schedule would deliver more than 120,000 additional seats to the Caribbean island a year thanks to the relaunch of a year-round service from Gatwick

Flights from London to Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI) are set to operate from October 25th, 2026, coinciding with the start of the International Air Transport Association winter season.

This addition means BA will operate three daily direct flights from the UK to Barbados during the winter – one from Gatwick and two from Heathrow.

UK travellers will have more flexibility when travelling year-round to Barbados as a result of this expansion.

Demand for travel to the island is growing, particularly for access to signature events such as the Crop Over Festival, Barbados Ninja Throwdown, Dive Fest, and Rally Barbados, all of which are held in the summer.

As the service continues into the summer, it will mark BA’s first ever double-daily service to the island, operating as a shared service with Guyana, Tobago, or Grenada on six days, with a dedicated Barbados service on Wednesdays.

Andrea Franklin, CEO of Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., said, “Ensuring Barbados remains accessible to our values UK visitors is a top priority.

“This expanded partnership with British Airways also ensures fantastic options for connectivity, providing more opportunities for travellers from all regions of the United Kingdom, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and beyond.”

This enhanced airlift is part of Barbados’ strategy to emphasise its appeal in the UK as the number-one English-speaking Caribbean destination.
