To mark the release of The Odyssey, tailor-made tour operator Audley Travel has unveiled a new itinerary for agents to recommend
Audley Travel's 'Inspired by The Odyssey: an epic journey across Italy & Greece' combines ancient history, mythology, local cuisine, and immersive experiences and Audley's Italy and Greece specialists have used the movie as a base to work with agents to design trips to the landscape of one of history's greatest stories.
The itinerary begins in Sicily, where clients explore Palermo, Segesta, Trapani, Erice, Taormina and active volcano Mount Etna. The itinerary then moves to the volcanic Aeolian Islands, and then to Athens, Greece. The journey concludes on Corfu, believed by many to be Homer's Scheria, the island of the Phaeacians where Odysseus washed ashore after Poseidon destroyed his raft.
Highlights of the tour includes exploring ancient ruins of Segesta, discovering Lipari, touring Athens Acropolis Museum, and Kayaking from Nafplio to the submerged remains of a Roman villa.
The 13-day tour leads in from £8,695 per person, and includes domestic flights, accommodation, private tours, and experiences.
Anna Scrivens, Regional Product Manager for EMEA at Audley Travel, commented, "The enduring appeal of The Odyssey lies in its sense of adventure and discovery. This itinerary allows travellers to experience destinations that have long been linked with the epic poem, combining ancient sites, mythology and local culture in a way that brings the story vividly to life. Whether travellers are inspired by Homer's original text or the new film adaptation, we want to give them a fascinating way to explore the Mediterranean with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the local food and traditions.”
