Travel agents have been using their lockdown time to zoom in and explore Malta for their clients.
The Malta Tourism Board has seen a spike in trade professionals using their online training platform and tuning into webinars.
According to a spokeswoman at the virtual World Travel Market, they have seen a huge increase in activity with more than 1,000 users taking 2,500 training sessions since the start of the pandemic in March.
While the Mediterranean island reopened in July, it was then added to the UK quarantine list in August. Visitor numbers were down 75% on last year.
To boost travel in 2021, the tourist authority is organising FAM trips for agents to show them around this popular UK holiday destination. Their themes for the New Year include slow travel, culture, adventure and Gozo.
