WTM 2021: President of the Mallorca Tourism Foundation on the destination's repositioning

Andreu Serra explained how the summer hotspot is working hard to reposition itself for a full 2022 season.

Singing praise for the UK market at World Travel Market 2021, President of the Mallorca Tourism Foundation, Andreu Serra, explained: "The UK is the most important market for us. I think Brits come to Mallorca for the sun and sand- we want to showcase all there is.

"Quality is so important- we'd like to maintain quantity but improve the quality by showing the hidden Mallorca- the sport, the adventure, the authentic culture behind the destination. All the while offering some 300 days of sun."

The pandemic halted a lot of the Balearic island's flow, with this year's season extended further than expected to account for the various closures.

"We're working hard to host a fully open season next year. We can guarantee good rates to entice visitors, and we're hoping to start earlier than ever. We've got a very good product beyond the beaches and summer- our culture and heritage is another area we really want to show guests next year."

"The pandemic was an opportunity to improve health and safety across hospitality- the whole chain of measures will be maintained to guarantee guests' safety on top of a quality experience."

On the island's journey towards sustainability, Serra continued, "We're working very hard- Mallorca is an island with limited resources, but we understand the responsibility for environmental, social and economic sustainability.

"We want to sustain a circular sustainable path of recycling and growth. Regeneration of our landscapes is key- not only for sustainability but also as we continue to expand our nature offerings and guests search for active, outdoor experiences."

"Mallorca is the safest destination in Europe- we want to become the most sustainable too.

"We continue to grow- we have more quality product than years passed, and we're becoming more aware of what the consumer wants and needs on their holidays."
