The island of Menorca is highlighting its art, culture and cuisine.
Menorca welcomed a host of new art and cultural attractions in 2021, helping the destination showcase its own identity. Hauser & Wirth Menorca also opened in 2021 in Isla del Rey as well as new galleries such as the L?AC centre in Alaior.
The island?s largest outdoor museum is made up of the extensive Talayotic heritage displayed in many rock formations scattered around the island. This will play centre stage in 2022 thanks to its UNESCO World Heritage candidacy which will be decided in July next year.
In 2022, Menorca will also be recognised as a European Region of Gastronomy 2022, a distinction granted by the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Arts and Tourism (IGCAT) that will be celebrated with a wide programme of activities throughout the year.
Laura Ruiz, director of tourism promotion for Menorca Island Council, said: ?Despite the pandemic, we are proud of the progress that has been made in Menorca from an art and cultural perspective. As well as the wonderful galleries, in 2022 Menorca should definitely be explored through the palate in a year in which the island will be recognised as the centre of European gastronomy. We also take great pride in preserving our natural environment and since 1993, the whole island has been recognised as a UNESCO Biosphere reserve. We are excited to be able to showcase our natural, cultural and gastronomical proposition once more.?
The island representatives are exhibiting at World Travel Market, London from November 1 to November 3.
