WTM 2021: Egyptair takes to the skies to bounce back from Covid-19

Speaking at WTM 2021, Egyptairs chairman and CEO covered all things recovery and the airlines future plans.

CEO and chairman of Egyptair, Amr Abuelenein, expressed his support for the UK travel trade and spotlighted positive signs of recovery.

On current market performance, Abuelenein said: "The UK market has been quite resilient- the market has somewhat bounced back following the negative impact of Covid-19 and travel restrictions being alleviated or scrapped. We are noticing a substantial improvement. There's now a weekly direct flight between London and Luxor beginning November 1, 2021, as well as the daily flight between London and Cairo."

"We hope to add a second daily service and reinstate some of our previous routes that have been suspended due to Covid-19."

Britain is the second biggest market for travel to Egypt, with UK travel agents the main channel for British business.

"We work closely with UK agents on specially discount fares and performance related incentives. We offer a free E-upgrade on our London to Cairo route, and will inform the trade of all our updates and incentives."

The airline has shifted its focus towards sustainability, with Abuelenein continuing: "We have to start somewhere- we're definitely on the right track."

Egyptair has recently introduced the eco-friendly Dreamliner B787-9 to it fleet, offering a 20% reduction in emissions to the standard charter flight.

In hopes of bolstering recovery, Egyptair's CEO concluded: "We are introducing very competitive packages in collaboration with the Egyptian tourist board and other travel partners to bring more Brits to Egypt."
