VisitGuernsey will be working with the historian and broadcaster Dan Snow for 2019.
Known for his long-standing broadcast career on the BBC, Snow will help VisitGuernsey publicise the spring Heritage Festival and the wider history product offering which attracts thousands of visitors each year.
The Guernsey Heritage Festival runs from April 19 to May 10 with the theme of Guernsey Encounters ? Throughout the Ages. The 2019 festival will look at the island?s interesting and fast-paced history from 8000BC to the modern day through a series of events, talks and special openings suitable for all ages.
A flagship event will be the talk Dan Snow will hold at the island?s only five-star hotel The Old Government House on May 10. He will share memorable anecdotes and experiences about a career which has seen him being set on fire, gassed, trained as a sniper and contracting hypothermia. Tickets are priced at ?60 per person and include wine and canap?s on arrival and a five-course banquet themed around an 1887 menu created by the first owner of the hotel John Gardner.
Dan Snow said: ?I?m delighted to be working with VisitGuernsey. Few people know about the wealth of history on this small island which is just a short hop from the UK. Whether it?s Neolithic Dolmens, privateering and piracy, Renoir and Victor Hugo?s cultural heritage or the impact left by the Germans during WWII occupation this island packs a historical punch that I?ll be exploring and reporting on.?
Dinner, bed and breakfast packages at The Old Government House throughout the Heritage Festival start at ?184.50 per room based on two sharing a classic double room.
