The celebration marked the ships inaugural sailing, with broadcaster Anne Diamond officially naming the ship Venus.
Viking celebrated the naming and inaugural sailing of its newest ocean ship, Viking Venus, with a celebration at sea on the English Channel. The ceremony was attended by Anna Diamond, who named the ship and offered the age-old tradition of a blessing of safe sailing.
The ceremony also marked the brand's return to cruising, after 14 months of paused operations due to the Covid-19 pandemic. On May 22, 2021, guests will step foot on the Viking Venus for the first time, as the ship sails from Portsmouth on its first round-trip if the 'England's Scenic Shores' itinerary, the first of five times the ship will embark on the route throughout May and June. Part of the cruise line's 'Welcome Back' collection, the eight-day voyages will call in Liverpool, the Isles of Scilly, Falmouth and Portland.
Providing intimate voyages, the Viking Venus has a 930-guest capacity, with a selection of staterooms and suites available, all providing access to the ship's wealth of facilities, from spas to on-board restaurants.
'Welcome Back' voyages are currently available to book throughout the summer.
