The airlines have also expanded their Christmas offerings from Doncaster Sheffield Airport to destinations including Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
TUI have expanded the number of flights to travel corridor destinations such as Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria in a response to pent up demand over cancelled travel this year and the easing the second lockdown. Wizz Air continues its flights to Eastern European destinations including Gdansk, Vilnius and Riga. Wizz Air will also add Cyprus to its destination portfolio from December 20, 2020. These expansions depart from Doncaster Sheffield Airport.
Chris Harcome, aviation development director at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, explained: ?This has been an extremely challenging year for airlines, airports and the aviation industry as a whole as we have seen a reduction of over 80% in passenger traffic.
?Operators have had to be agile and TUI and Wizz have responded to the easing of lockdown and the introduction of Test and Release by adding extra flights to popular destinations as well as discounts for testing kits, in a move to get passengers back in the air. They have seen a significant spike in bookings following the announcement with many eager to escape to some much-needed sunshine.?
The scheduling additions come after the government announced changes to its testing strategy, allowing travellers to reduce the 14-day period of self-isolation to just five days on receipt of a negative COVID-19 test from a private provider. Travel corridor countries were not affected by the change in strategy.
Wizz Air have also introduced discounted rapid COVID-19 tests Wizz partnering with Confirm Testing for its 'Fit to Fly' package which includes a PCR swab test and certificate at ?85 per person. TUI have teamed up with Randox and is offering a discount code for passengers who can order home-testing kits with next-day delivery.
